In Memoriam

Gary Dexter

November11, 1953 – September 21, 2018

Gary’s pottery works are testament to his love of the good earth of his South Carolina home. From this love grew a fascination with that alchemy of mud, ash, and fire that defines the Old Edgefield District tradition of alkaline-glazed Southern pottery — a tradition that Gary revived in the 1990s. His pottery has been sold in galleries and museums throughout the southeast and is held throughout the world by collectors of Southern stoneware.

Gary’s website (built circa 2010) is being maintained, as he left it, to preserve the online galleries of his pottery, as well as his blog, which holds a diversity of historical background and practical information, along with some of the colorful tales that he lived and wrote about during his Enterprise Mill years at his Old Canal Pottery in Augusta.
